Season Opener Against the Undefeated Northern Colorado Nightmare

Utah Islanders visit Greeley, Colorado to start off the competition season. Down by 10 in the second quarter, Utah rallied to start the season off with a competitive win.

W 29 - 26

The Utah Islanders opened their 2024 season on the road Saturday, August 17th in Greeley, Colorado. After announcing Chris Heliin and Ethan Wright as acting General Manager & Head Coach, the Islanders went to work. Meeting weekly until tryouts in May, many of our athletes have been laying the groundwork since that day in December, 2023.

The team loaded up Le Bus Friday and spent the night in Cheyenne, Colorado. After dinner, team bonds were forged as each position group took turns comically imitating their Head Coach, OC & DC, and even team founder, Chris Heliin.

Music notes and savory barbecue were already in the air as the bus unloaded at District 6 Field. Nightmare Team Owner Kerri, was welcoming as she emphasized the importance of a family presence when asked about the bounce house and the children friendly environment. “A great Saturday night should have family, music, food, and football.” She continued, deservingly proud of the full stands, parking lot, and activities filling the stadium and surrounding areas.

“It was the first game we needed”, reflected Head Coach Wright. Down by 10 in the second half, and a touchdown called back, Utah had to work together to pull off a 3 point lead with possession of the ball as the remaining seconds ran off the clock.

Up next, Utah Islanders @ Snow Badgers, Saturday, August 24th.
